POST, PIPE, STRUCTURAL STEEL 20 acres of Pipe & Steel to help you economically build whatever you need. If we do not have what you need or are temporarily out of stock, let us know what you need and when you need it and we’ll do our best to get in back in stock. We often get behind because of demand for quality long lasting products, but quality is always in demand and we would wonder what we were doing wrong if we ever completely caught up. We build everything to last, we want repeat customers because they were pleased with our products – not because it broke or wore out. |

Our pipe that is in biggest demand for fence builders is our new secondary. The term secondary covers a wide variety of meanings. Secondary can mean odd length and otherwise perfect or it can mean completely open seam bowed steel. Obviously it is easy to be taken advantage of when buying secondary steel. One of the reasons we are often out of stock or behind in supplying is because we are honest with people. We fully describe the pipe to you. All mills are different with their output of secondary steel. Some mills run tight tolerances and the secondary we buy from them is good straight long lengths with around 15% open seam ranging from 2’-5’ and a few full split. However, more often than not there are more pieces you’ll look at and wonder what is wrong with it than there are full open seam pipe. Some mills produce horrible secondary and we try to avoid them. If we do receive material with a lot of bad seam we discount it and tell you ahead of time it is discounted for a reason. |

KNOW YOUR PIPES WALL THICKNESS |
|||
It’s a fact. There are unscrupulous cow traders, used car salesmen, politicians and even pipe people. When buying pipe your best friend is a micrometer! If we say the pipe you are buying is .254 inches thick you know what it is. Numbers are measurements and can be checked. If you are told pipe is schedule 40 do you really know what that means? Schedule 40 is a different thickness for each size pipe. People can play the numbers on schedule 40 to make something a little light fit the description. What about a term like super max 90? If someone told you he was selling you “Super Max 90” it would sound like it was pretty good stuff, however, it may just be some lightwall pipe he was trying to get sold to whoever he knew could fool at least once. We tell you the wall thickness with a number you can measure. We want repeat customers and referred customers.
When you phone us and ask for a pipe such such as 4" schedule 40 we will tell you that the wall thickness is .237" and the ODis 4-1/2". Pipe is typically listed as the inside diameter and round tubing is typically measured by the outside diameter. Do not let someone sell you pipe based off a schedule size, ask for the measurable wall thickness. I was at a farm show once with a sample of 4-1/2" OD round tubing that had a wall thickness of .120". A father and son were talking to each other with the son asking the dad if that was the same thickness they had bought from a pipe broker and the dad responded "yes, it was schedule 40 just like this piece." I knew then they had been fed a big lie as to what schedule 40 was and thought they had gotten a great bargain. They had probably called several people and companies and found some guy selling schedule 40 pipe for a lot less money that anyone else, there was only half as much pipe so of course, if was cheaper. If a customer calls us and asks for 4-1/2" OD schedule 40 it is .237 wall (almost 1/4" thick) that we will quote. If someone is selling something for a lot less you will be getting a lot less. We are also honest about defects on the pipe. Different mills produce different qualities of reject or secondary pipe. Lengths, splits and straightness are all qualities you'd better beware of. Campare apples with apples. |
